Meguro City Hall, built 1966, has quake damage fixed with duct tape

Meguro-ku city hall is a listed building dating back over 50 years – meaning it can’t be knocked down and rebuilt. Friends of mine who work there told me how during the recent quake they thought the building was coming down. The stairwell now features some impressive cracks – cunningly fixed with duct tape.

Huge Earthquake Hits Japan

Just a quick entry to reassure people that we’re unhurt here in Tokyo. Just shaken up.

You can read my somewhat garbled account of what I experienced on The Guardian website.

Here’s an audioboo i posted shortly after the quake:

Listen!

I also posted many many links etc on Twitter.

Going to try get some sleep now. Many thanks for all the kind messages from people looking our for us. Our hearts go out to those a little further north where the damage has been absolutely appalling.
