First time back in Hakodate in 10 years

Like how they've redone the harbourside, converting the red brick warehouses, lighting them up at night too

Autumn sunsets

20120928-071008.jpg

There’s been some really lovely sunsets recently, and now I’m working from my home office I’ve been fortunate enough to witness them most days since the autumn equinox.

Autumn in Japan is one of my favourite seasons, coming in a close second after spring. The intense humidity of summer is gone, and aside from the occasional storm swinging in from the south, the weather is generally good …perfect for running!

I hope that this autumn twinkle Tame and I can get out of the city now and then to connect with nature. We’re not getting off to a bad start; tomorrow we’ll be heading off to Hokkaido for a few days, our first holiday in a long long time. Good food, beautiful nature, and hopefully no work. I’m very much looking forward to it.

I’ll just have to try not to spend all my time playing with my new toy – the iPhone 5 arrived yesterday. Whilst not some revolutionary upgrade from the 4S, it really is a beautiful thing.

Anyway, I’d better do the washing up before Twinkle Tame wakes up.

Tarra.

Very interesting

I occasionally swap my 4pm coffee for a 4pm nap. Think I'll do that more often.

Spent quite a bit of time tonight trying to find a decent, user-friendly mind mapping program – finally settled with MindNode Pro, and love it. Highly recommended. A lot more usable than XMind (which is what I'd tried before now)

Today's weather in Tokyo was just fantastic

So many sudden torrential downpours, dramatic cloud formations, sunlight and wind. Got a great view from my home office, able to keep the doors open even when it rains thanks to the rain-proof balcony design.

That's one reason I'm so happy to be working from home again – I feel much more connected with the rhythm of the city.

Having a 10 metre commute from the futon is handy too.

Love my Drobo FS but have been dissapointed by sluggish performance …then discovered CAT8 Ethernet cables – has made a huge difference (was the standard CAT5), much faster transfers now.

Still not fast enough for video editing though – currently using USB3 drives for that. But looking forward to Drobo's next release – a thunderbolt version with built in SSD, out later this year 🙂
